Fortunately this playtime was a little bit different than my usual ones. Although a little bit odd in ways for a young girl on the cuff of becoming a teenager. Yet we are somewhat similar in a disconcerting way.

Not once but twice now this young lady has surprised me with her ideas and stories. My goodness talk about being goofy and more mature than some kids I have been around lately it’s been a trip.
First of all Friday evening I was always, ‘Selena’s Aunt Jewell’ everytime she directed a question towards me. No matter how many times I have told her just call me Jewell, Sweetie okay. We love her she is darling with a quaint personality. Just a tad big older than my niece and taller than her she is sometimes the conscious my niece doesn’t always listen to as she should.
Her first wacky idea has to do with the ‘S’ word. She was trying to convince me she liked them and wanted to have one as a pet. A slitherly serpent is what she’s talking about. She was literally projecting nightmares for my evening. I tried to cover my ears so I couldn’t hear but it was too late.
I also blame it on her having way too much sugar that night!
Then today since she is on Fall Break we caught a few moments with her again and she surprised me with a second story that seemed familiar to me.
Unfortunately I mean this in a bad way! It brought back another nightmare for me from decades ago as a youngster myself.
She was telling us that she had to be careful she had had an accident where she fell face down nearly hitting a hammer recently. I didn’t see any damage to that cute face of hers fortunately. However, she brought back flashbacks for me. As a young stupid little girl I did something much worse not thinking of any consequences.
This was before we lived in the house I live in now. Until I was nearly 13 our family of 5 lived in a trailer just less than a mile away from where my brother lives now. This little girl was standing in front of where our trailer used to be. I was sitting at the back door of my Uncle’s house at the time. I had a hammer that I thought needed fixing so I found another hammer to try to fix it. Remember I was young less than 8 years old I would say.
Suffice it to say I lost control of one of them and I don’t remember all the details only that one side of one of the hammers met my front teeth. Blood gushed out and I think I remember crying to my parents. However, when it came time to visit the dentist I tried to hide under my bed. I remember being in the trailer in my nice big room overlooking our driveway.
I had never been more scared to go to the dentist. That took a while to get over.
Embarrassment was my frustration after this accident. I had to wear a retainer. The fun side of this was that I got to take little trips to Bloomington and get out of school earlier and I got to pick out the color of my retainer: purple of course.
