Chaos Erupts

The thought of Rep. Matt Gaetz actually accruing all the votes necessary didn’t seem feasible this morning. Boy was I wrong.

When he first came onto the scene a few short years ago he was energetic and a Republican. I understand both sides of this issue. The CR, the Continuing Resolution is an enabling function of Pelosi’s reign of Speaker maybe even going back farther.

However, this weekend a miracle also happened. The Senate Republicans went over Senator McConnell’s head and took out the Ukraine funding. This is also a big step for them to take against him. We were in a really good position until today happened.

Why after what just happened did he think today was a good day for such a bombshell move?

As much as I have usually been in Gaetz corner today seems really reckless. Not to mention on the world stage. The minority leader said that they, the Democrats will put people over policy in response to what he would do in regards to the supporting or not supporting Speaker McCarthy.

For some reason even with believing Gaetz’s vote wouldn’t go anywhere I was drawn to the House Chambers this afternoon. He refuted all attempts from his Republican colleagues during the hour they were given for anyone to bring their case against him or with him. I couldn’t leave my laptop until the second vote the nay/yay vote. Then I finally turned off my pc and took a breather.

As a historian I still can’t believe he would allow the Republicans to be viewed as the instigator of this new chaos. He’s not alone though a few Republicans did help him get the number he needed.

What will history remember of today?
