Honoring A Senator: Diane Feinstein

Death is always a sad fact of life no matter the party affiliation. Her term was not set to end until January 2025. She had health issues though and it’s not being mentioned as to a specific symptom or illness that took her, but she had dealt with shingles and encephalitis and was absent from the Senate for several months earlier this year.

The homages are coming out of the woodwork for Diane Feinstein this Friday. She was a remarkable woman who made an impact. Some are going possible too far and even calling her a ‘centrist’.

What impact do you think she made on her native home of San Francisco and the state of California? I suppose it’s in the eye of the beholder!

As much as I would love to accentuate her negatives as a liberal it’s not the day to do so. Today is a day to remember what she did accomplish. She was the first woman president of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors back in 1969, then became mayor of San Francisco in 1978 after the Assassination of mayor George Moscone and Supervisor Harvey Milk. This moment in time defined her gun stance when she found the bullet in the dead body of the mayor.

She has been in the Senate for six terms and was the oldest in Congress. While holding this seat she has passed bills to preserve and restore Lake Tahoe. She has raised $100 million in stamps for Breast Cancer. Also was part of the force who created the Amber Alert System so maybe she could get a pass for being able to work on the other side to get important issues worked on.

After losing an Aunt recently myself and seeing the influence she had on our community; it’s only been a week and a half. This Senator’s influence and loss will be felt for days, weeks months and years to come. This Peach Rose was on Aunt Carol’s casket. I took several pictures of it Tuesday morning the day after the funeral.

There’s something about a Rose. The color of the Fall Season; Peach. It’s stately, but weathered the storms like both women did. They both held positions and dealt with being in the public. Plus they had long battles with their health. They will both long be known for their individual reputations they earned.
