Growing up we watched PBS quite a bit. One of the Shows was Reading Rainbow with LeVar Burton. Oddly we also watched Mr. Rogers honestly, if anything his mannerisms in his life and his show came off differently to people. So why do I now have a much different opinion on both of these shows now?
Listening to the song Mr. Rogers sang not very long ago took me back a bit. Listen to the lyrics carefully at a time when no one really noticed he was being proactive. Somehow this unmarried, older man who had an interest in teaching children understood what was on the verge of happening within society. He actually concisely lays out the differences in boys and girls in the song. Once I heard this as an adult I had to look at this man in a different light.
However, this morning I found this headline from one of my favorite sources, the Gateway Pundit. “Reading Rainbow’s LeVar Burton Claims Blocking Children’s Access to Explicit Books is ‘White Supremacy.’ Cassandra MacDonald dropped this story today about 175 supposed artists who signed a letter, it was “denouncing efforts to block children’s access to sexually explicit books as “white supremacy.”
Of course, we shouldn’t be surprised by the signers “Andy Cohen, Alyssa Milano, Ariana Grande, Bill Nye, Chelsea Handler, Judd Apatow, Judy Blume, Mark Ruffalo, Zooey Deschannel and Ron Perlman.” Still it’s disappointing a campaign is being waged by them and this organization named MoveOn.
“Burton has previously urged children to read banned books, saying on The Daily Show in 2002 that “that’s where the good stuff is.”” Wow right! There is a big difference in banned books. He’s acting like this is Vichy France where there were real lists of banned books for the mere reason someone was a Jew or somehow disfavored by the Nazi Regime. These books that are being talked about are books that are not age appropriate for school-age children.
Don’t forget Biden and Harris believe all children are their children right! They have been saying it out loud. Children are of the state not actually children of their parents.
