Relating Yesterday’s Photo’s: The Books

Collecting books is awesome. Especially when the books came with a story or that people had me in mind when they saw a certain book. Somehow that’s pretty special knowing they had remembered my love for history and thought of me; it’s a special connection to the book.

There are several books I had tried to hide up at the house until I could make a place for them once again. Recently I moved some furniture around. allowing space for these larger books to be displayed and where I would have easy access to them.

These books are memories for me.

One of these books, the one in the middle, was given to me by one of dad’s sisters. ‘Touched By Fire’ was found by Aunt Martha at one of the yard sales she was looking through. When she saw it she thought of me. Then one Sunday afternoon at Grandma’s she gave it to me. I do remember she forgot it and told me about it but it took a week or two before I got the book. It’s these little stories about the books being given to me that I cherish.

The book itself is about the Civil War and as you can tell it’s rather large. It’s an intriguing book and I am glad it’s in my library.

‘Another book that was a gift is ‘Another book that was a gift is ‘Front Page World War II’, this was from one of our Alsman Christmas’s Lilly and our beau at the time gave me this book and a littler book. I love this not just because it came from her, but because it holds the front page newspapers of war-torn countries of Europe. This was such an amazing gift; I loved it.

I think I stole the others from Grandpa’s library since no one else was using them.

There is one group of books I have yet to mention… these all deal with Grandpa’s service time and his personal book collection that are very special to our family.
