When my cousin graduated from Evansville and I still had another year or more left of college we made plans for me to stay with her in Ohio. I went down to my aunt and uncles house and spent the night with them. The next morning my younger cousin Justin got in my car and we followed his parents all the way to Cincinnati. They had stuff to take to her and I got a whole week with my best friend.
My uncle definitely inherited Grandpa’s lead foot, but I kept up with him mile for mile. I was glad Justin decided to ride with me it was nice to have some conversation through the hours of driving.
When we got there we all went shopping at Sam’s and Lowe’s favorite Alsman hotspots. then we ate at a place called ‘Romano’s’ an Italian Eatery There was one up in Indy, but it closed up not long after Dad and I ate there one time. We all slept in Lilly’s apartment; all 5 of us. I do know Aunt Mary brought an extra mattress and there was the couch. It worked out.
This was the farthest vacation I had ever taken without my parents. Yet I was still with family the ride home is what really scared the jeezers out of me. Of course, it was only in my head, everything was fine I found the clearest cut road which still had to take me back up to Indy to get me back to Sullivan County. When I got into Terre Haute though it felt like I was home and I even made a stop there before getting home on Saturday afternoon.
My fears about driving alone and knowing where to go were taken care of, my Lord was guiding me the whole time. That was a special trip I will never forget, it proved to myself what I could do even with fears and doubts trying to take over my mind. Yet my family guided me there and being with Lilly that week meant so much to me that I didn’t let fear paralyze me with what-if’s.
