Certainly in High School I would have been voted the shyest girl in the Class of 2003. However, I have literally turned into my Grandparents. I spent more time with the Alsmans strictly because we lived within walking distance of them growing up.
When Grandpa Bishop died I was a teenager and music was my life. He was the instigator and inspiration for my tangent into history. The family I inherited from my Grandfather the rich history and intriguing stories I have are because of him. Grandma Betty worked at Crane she was a big sister and duty driven very meticulous with her observations. I also have noticed those tendencies in myself.
Grandma Betty is very good at telling a story from beginning to end without missing a beat. Grandpa Freddy also enjoyed re-telling stories about his loved ones and friends. He was my biggest encouragement when I found history to be more intriguing than I ever thought it to be. He also thoroughly enjoyed teasing Grandma Rosie about her long-winded conversations. It was a long standing tease of his to say, “Rosie could find out all about a woman’s, her entire family and even her social security number before their conversation was over.” Obviously I’m paraphrasing I can’t remember how he used to say that now after over 18 years since his death.
My Grandparents are very much a part of me. I would never have thought I could blog or write a book in High School either. I have learned by their example they were all amazing extroverts by the time I came around; I was the introvert for a very long time. It’s funny to see how that slowly changed in my life. I see the little stories in everyday life better because of them being in my life.
Ironic how engaged and loving Grandparents can help mold a child’s future. It seems God had that in mind when He created the family!
