First Memories of Church

My parents were married at my mom’s childhood Church. It wasn’t very long though after I was born that we moved to Faith Community Church just south a couple of minutes.

Faith was my first Church and it is tied with so many cherished memories. Our Church didn’t have a baptismal so at around 5 me and my cousin were saved.

Guess where we went to in order to have our baptisms?

A Church Family lived up the road a bit and they had a pool! Lilly and I got baptized in the Enoch’s pool, we had a Church pool party that day.

John Booker was our Preacher.

There are so many, many memories of this Church. We have lots of photos of the summers of VBS, and Six Flag Trips and even overnights to Little Nashville. The Alsman Family did things together as a big family. I still remember fondly watching the men in my family make breakfast on Easter morning at the Church after getting up early for Sunrise Service. Those were beautiful days I take to charge me up when necessary.

When you put a pianist with a singer what do you think their children will be?

All three of us play, but I love that I got the front row seat of my Mom playing piano and singing with my Dad.

It was going to be difficult for me not to be born without any musical tendencies, right? So very logically I was pretty much born and in the choir with a short distance in between. I had my first solo at the age of 5. Okay it was one line, but I sang it twice and I was the echo to my Dad. After the Cantata was over I will never forget Judy, the Preacher’s wife telling me how for such a little girl I had a loud voice. Honestly, I don’t remember how I sounded, but I do remember before and after. It was also Miss Dottie’s solo because it was forever ingrained in my head listening to her sing and I dubbed it as her solo.

That solo has since become a favorite Christmas song for me. I have created an alto line out of the solo and performed it as both an alto and a soprano. All because of the way it stuck with me as that little girl.

My Favorite Canata ‘This Day Is Born Emmanuel.’

My life was structured we lived and breathed Church, Home and School. I lacked absolutely nothing in my life. I felt loved and cherished we had a wonderful Community. My brothers and I also spent time with my Grandparents at their Church when we spent the night on the Bishop side. We got to see some of our school friends at both Churches.
