The simple answer is from my grandpa’s. Jewell was my Grandpa Freddy’s middle name and he did his best to not need to use it. I knew what the name was, but he simply left it as J otherwise. His older sister had named him after a musician named Frederick Jewell from Worthington, Indiana. Only about 30 to 45 minutes away from us lived a musical composer. Really it’s quite exciting to know Aunt Maxine knew about this man. So that means I am also named after a musician and my grandfather which makes it all the more intriguing.
The beauty of this name is how it seemed to fit me as the musician I did become in my own right. It was one of those things just meant to be I suppose.
Then to top it off I have my Dad’s and Grandpa Leo’s family name. The only thing that strikes me with this last name is what the name Bishop implies. Both my Dad and Grandpa have been leaders in Church, but me being a leader eludes me. Yet I love the history of how my name comes together and how history itself has become a passion as much as music has in my life.
The idea of being a leader gives me a feeling of unworthiness. I must admit with the different positions I have had over the years working just as hard as my coworkers and training other cashiers. I am constantly in front of people whether I am teaching Sunday School or being in choir I am routinely in front of the public in one way or another even with this blog.
So a rare gem and a leader. Maybe names do tend to fit the characters of the people named! What do you think?
