Create an emergency preparedness plan.-Writing Prompt

Daily writing prompt
Create an emergency preparedness plan.

Every job I have had has had this type of training either before starting the job or with work training while on the job. The idea is to know as much about where you are if an emergency happens. From Walmart, DaVita and Fresenius I had very complex emergency plans I had to know and learn for very specific circumstances.

Actually, I got to witness an absolute accident which wasn’t a catastrophe once we realized what happened. However, me and my cohort, were able to witness an almost crisis with the dialysate at the Clinic. Meaning we had to turn off each and every patient hooked up at the time, because our testing told us there was bleach in the water. Thankfully the test was wrong due to some various conditions of the one taking the test. They took the water test from the wrong spout. This situation could have been very real and we could have potentially had 9 very sick people on our hands that needed the ER services.

All of us had our blood pressures go up that day, but none more than the one who made the mistake. You can be as prepared as possible and still make mistakes. No one blamed the person and we took it as a learning experience. It was a bit scary, they had actually had that happen for real earlier that year.

Planning is good and having certain numbers on hand, but don’t overwhelm yourself with every single detail, unless you’re being paid to do so. Take deep breaths and know emergency exits, where hospitals are and phone numbers for people who need to know about you or who you’re planning for.
