Experiencing Church

My Church life starts with two different Churches not far away from each other…

My Dad went to the United Methodist Church in Pleasantville. This Church feels legendary to our family. The Church Celebrated 200 years right before Covid happened. Three slices of our family branches have been around in this Church from the beginning. Now Grandma is the last member of the culmination of these families.

In 1984 Dad branched out he knew Freddy and Rosemary, but not their daughter until he showed up at their Church one Sunday. I love hearing this story each time Mom tells me about it… a very romantic yet in God’s timing kind of relationship. I like these kinds of stories that end up being real love stories with amazing 30 years later stories in the end.

Yet it was because of Dad’s family being brought up in Church and to the dismay of his childhood congregation; his musical talent was also moving northward. His parents had diligently brought their 6 children to Church and served in various positions from Sunday School Superintendent to Sunday School Teachers, lovingly.

It was this Church that Grandpa knew well before he waded into the waters of war overseas. This congregation prayed over him and loved him home. His own Mother, Great Grandma Mary came with her children even though her husband only came to Church for weddings or funerals. Most times the Bishops were taken to Church by neighbors, Grace and her son Everett Enochs.

Still all those 6 children were at Church even though they rarely saw their Father there. I think as the oldest Grandpa Leo thought it was his duty to do so for his Mom. All I know is that he without his Mother’s devotion to prayer and this congregation Grandpa’s situation could have been much different.

What does your home life look like? A Church Community and Prayers can do amazing things in a person’s life? Have you given it a try? Disclaimer though no Church is perfect, sometimes it takes some effort and love. Don’t give up on going to Church you never know how it could change your life…
