Those Old Things… Before Computers

Last night I got to do something for the first time. When I began in school computers had already taken over what the typewriters had accomplished in spades. So my class had lessons in typing on the computers I have never had a typewriter or didn’t think we still had one around.

Until a month or so ago I didn’t realize, but I should have known Grandma would have saved the typewriter. I got excited, but realized I am down the line from being the person with first dibs on this family vintage typewriter. So I held my tongue and waited for someone else to take dibs. Finally last week I put my intention out there and it was met by Aunt Rhonda’s response. She thought well that would have been a natural thought for you to have it I am kind of paraphrasing a bit. I wasn’t really expecting that comment.

I am still pleasantly savoring that compliment. Each one I get means more than the person knows! Even from my Aunts.

I know this isn’t much, but this was my first few moments typing with my family heirloom typewriter. I still have to make some more room to fit it comfortably without it being hit or hitting something else.

So if I was a betting woman how much should I bet that my Grandpa’s brief which was typed by Grandma was also on this typewriter? The goosebumps and the history nerd in me is super psyched by this thought as a granddaughter as well.

Okay I’m sure I am the only person to get really excited over a typewriter, but it has history and a family connection. Plus it still works and can be a neat prop for some future ideas as well. The Lord does indeed work in mysterious ways and I intend to use what the Lord has given me.

I just think it’s so pretty to look at and has more character than some of these computers. Yes I know I am in a minority, but I did grow up watching ‘Murder, She Wrote’.
