What notable things happened today?

What an intriguing question for me knowing what tomorrow means for my Mom’s family. Today 68 years ago wow to envision that day for Rosemary and Freddy seems unreal. You know for all the recent wedding talk of my cousins weddings over the last 15 years never have I heard grandma talk about her wedding as far as decor, the church, or even a reception. I have known for a while that they simply went to Town Hall in Sullivan to the Justice of the Peace. Yet until seeing this question it had never occurred to me… what grandma never had.

Many puzzle pieces fit together in my mind now more than ever. Her father died before she was 8 years old. The lack of her father’s presence, her biological father, led to some very unfortunate events. I can only surmise that not having a father walk her down the isle possibly took the church option off the menu. I understand these simpler ideas now, a part of me is unsure, maybe when the time comes for me a simple service will do as well.

Although, I very much want my father-daughter moment. Bryan’s parents are gone though and I don’t know, we will figure things out in time I suppose. I have even fiddled with the idea of getting married in Boston.

Wow decisions, decisions.

For today though, were they just as nervous about their wedding day even not making such a big deal of it? What were the thoughts going on in their minds today all those years ago?

Goodness I wished we could have done a big 50 year Anniversary Celebration for them, but instead we were all in mourning for grandpa.

Grandpa became the stability Grandma hadn’t had since she was nearly 8 years old. He was devoted to her and on the day of his testimony minutes before he died, in front of the congregation that day, he called her “His Angel”.

Tomorrow would have been my Grandparents 68th Anniversary; wouldn’t that have been incredible had it happened!
