An interesting question. I was born in the 80’s and I remember how big those first home computers were. So I guess my answer is simple I don’t personally remember a time without the influence of the internet. I don’t think we got our first computer until after I started school, when I started needing papers typed out maybe while all three of us were in Elementary School.
My Uncle Mike went to College to study computers. His computer was the only one that was used in my grandparents house. Still to this day neither of my grandparents got computers for themselves or had anything to do with the internet. Flip phones were and are, the extent my grandparents made to be technologically bound to the 21st Century. So when visiting them we made do and never really had a need to convince them they absolutely needed the internet.
So maybe in a way that’s why I love those two houses. My Uncle did eventually get Grandma Rosie Dish to watch after Grandpa died and now for the first time ever Grandma Betty now has cable in her new residence. Funny how technology needs to grow on a person, especially when both these ladies experienced the Great Depression. Betty was older and Rosie saw the end of the depression. These two ladies did more in their lifetimes without social media than most of gen z with social media and Grandma Betty is still a lady to be admired!
