Sentimental Melodies

When my family first walked up the steps at Fellowship Baptist Church, in I think, 1998 Dean Hartman was the Preacher. One of the many women in the congregation that befriended us instantly was Carolyn Clark. She and Grandma Rosie became best buds although we can say that of quite a few of those ladies. We made lifelong connections within this congregation still intact today.

Memories of Carolyn still make me teary-eyed on occasion. Like this morning I have reorganized our piano/computer/office room this past week. For the life of me these two booklets didn’t spark any recollections. Then it didn’t take long for the spark to strike. Carl gave us her music after she died. I still remember her before she got really bad asking us to look at her music. She wanted someone to get some use out of them and said her family wouldn’t use the music. We didn’t know we were hesitant to take it we felt out of place doing so at that time.

However, after she died Carl asked us again if we would take her music and we did acquiesce out of our love and respect for her. I don’t know it just seemed like there should have been someone else to take the mantle, but she chose us and we are honored to have this music.

Carolyn also led the music for the services. Her voice was gorgeous. I also enjoyed listening to the trio perform special music. Elsie lynch and Norma Nance were the alto’s to her soprano. They were so evenly balanced and such a beloved group of vocalists in the church.

I have been trying to get back to my musical ingenuity of late. It is with great excitement that I get to use the talents God gave me to use and I like exploring my talents with other musicians. Even if they don’t know they have talents yet. I very much feel the need to do whatever I can musically to see if it in turn opens new doors for those who also need to do likewise.
