Legacy is a big word. I have thought about this word a lot in relation to my grandparents. My grandfathers got to meet most of their grandchildren, but not if any at the time of their deaths, their great-grandchildren. It is up to us to share our memories with them.
When my niece was born I tried to make a big impression by showing her pictures of our grandpa’s and uncle Mike. For a little bit she would know by pictures who they were, but their importance in our lives were still blank. She knows her grandma’s pretty well which is a big plus from our Sunday afternoons together.
My legacy is making sure our new generations have the accurate information of our grandparent’s and their love for God, Family and Country. I want my niece and cousins to know what I have discovered through years of memories and from commentary from those who knew them well.
My grandpas worked hard and loved their families. They also wanted to do their part for their country by serving and voting. They set the examples for us and both couples celebrated at least half a century of marriage each. Good solid marriages seem hard to come by in this modern era.
My grandparents have all served the Lord in their respective sanctuaries and served with all their hearts. I can see this service represented in each of the branches of my family. That in itself is something firm about their legacy, how we have continued to walk in their footsteps. So that is my longing if I even deserve to have a legacy myself. I wouldn’t even be here if not for them, everything I have came from them trusting in God and praying for their future children. I am very blessed!
