There can be a few different people I could share about. Between Church leaders and friends, in my musical education and work experiences. Yet I always go back to my grandpa’s. I could even add my Great-Grandpa Lester to this mix. Listening to his stories when we visited his house on Sunday afternoons, he would always catch our attention, maybe from his multi-decade teaching career. The men in my life have been instrumental to the woman I have become because of their presence and my ability to put that journey into a book.
Now I’m certain they didn’t think their lives would constitute an idea for a book. Although Grandpa Freddy would want Grandpa Leo’s story more as the focus. Great-Grandpa Arla taught me and my cousins the ability of education and interest for life.
Thinking of Mothers Day yesterday, just reminds me of all the men it takes to create a Mother. Obviously, not all Mothers get the opportunity to spend time with their great-grandparents or grandparents, but the love, care and security that Godly men display through the years of their daughter’s lives are always near and dear to those Mothers in their future. Knowing how they were safe, sound, loved and well cared for are the same details every mother wants for their children.
I am finally seeing the silver lining in my own journey waiting for the right man. The past two years have been educational, but I truly understand why my elders wanted the best for me. They shielded me, loved me, educated me for the day I would meet the man most of them would never meet. Yet they wanted me to be prepared and know my worth and not settle for the man that would one day be the father also responsible for future Mothers Days!
