Jewells of Thought

For the first time in several years mom and I had 3 Celebrations of Mothers and the women in our lives. Grandma’s Church had been something a little different for their members. She has 5 daughters and each lady has their own church family. She may have at one time gone to her daughters churches for their specific banquets, but it’s too difficult to do so. I can remember Grandma coming with us even to a few of ours when we went to Fellowship. There was one when I was a teenager and Grandma came to keep me company.

Tonight was a unique experience. Not only did my grandma and cousins attend our banquet our entree was hot dogs and coney dogs not exactly a usual delicacy for a Mothers Day Banquet. However, the coney dogs were delicious. The coney sauce was perfect as well as the baked beans. Dessert was smores. Are you catching the theme? Camping and the message of our Preacher’s wife was Festivals: Old Testament Style. It was a fun night. I think my uncle was the right leader of the men in the kitchen. This is the only church I have seen the men serving the women for the Mother’s Day Banquet. All the guys had the hats and red aprons.

This evening was nice although we weren’t able to sit as a family with my Grandma Aunt and my cousin with her 3 children even her son. Yet our tables were exactly the way they should be. Funny how God works in the details like that. It helps make the night special considering neither my niece nor my sister-in-law could make it.

The past three weeks have been special though with each Church’s banquet. The message from the speakers and seeing my expanded Church family is always an intriguing and wonderful time.
