A community is important in one’s daily life. I have mentioned this a lot lately, that I miss the ladies meetings that were held monthly for most of the year at a former church. Women are usually good nurturers and coming up with problem solving methods. They were the first defense for a family, when a member of the church had surgery, meeting a need for food. Even taking others to appointments when needed.
It’s been the women of the church that come together to support the leaders of the church. Women are essential to the efforts the church makes in a community. I have spent years assisting, teaching in various classes and the annual VBS seasons; wonderful experiences. Music has always been a big focus for me besides the children’s activities, and for a brief year I totally enjoyed piecing a newsletter together for a church community.
My last two surgeries took a lot of time to recover from. I have still not gotten back to performing as I had been just 5 years ago. This last surgery took a lot out of me because it hadn’t fully healed when I had discovered the fracture. My right arm lacks strength now even as I remember the therapy from the first surgery building back my strength. I have sorely missed having the group of women I have had in times past to talk to and even be reminded that things could be worse. I could not be able to play piano or type at all if things had gone differently with these surgeries.
Determination is in my DNA, however, in September last year I played my clarinet for some special music at my aunt’s church. It was their homecoming; I was pretty determined to get back to playing it and this was a perfect place to start. I was reminded this weekend after speaking to some ladies at church that I have to be more forceful with my intentions of performing again. I never thought I would let surgery take me away from one of my passions like this and I need to get back into my musical groove and make some more music videos.
God willing these women will hold me accountable more so and it will hopefully build back my strength a little bit in my arm once again.
