Mellifluous

Until yesterday I didn’t know this word or its meaning. Like the name Magdalena, it has a sweet melodic sound. The musician in me thinks of different regions having different musical sounds to portray them. This name, Magdalena, brings out my imagination and my love for the woodwinds who sound best, to me, in minor keys. Besides being my mothers choice of instrument; I also enjoy the deep rich sound of our instrument, the clarinet.

Music is a part of me and there are times when I am reading descriptive sentences very distinct cadences, flourishes or even Jazz comes to mind according to what I am reading. Music makes me feel and think of specific places and times and of songs and sometimes twisting two different songs together. I have read a specific book and I practiced twisting this song together in different ways. It’s a favorite song that brings out my clarinet’s earthy tones going back and forth from playing and singing. Yes, it takes a lot of breath, but I enjoy feeling the rush of emotions singing for the Lord creates.

There are two meanings for this word mellifluous. A smooth rich flow or filled with something that sweetens. Now do either of these sound like a mother or grandmother or potentially an aunt? Several ladies come to my mind.

As a mother, I think Magdalena had to deal with more than any woman would want to admit. In the book she was also given the name ‘Healer’ due to her surgical and healing skills as a doctor. Sometimes an event has to happen to reset our thinking and help us to grow. The character of Magdalena says in one of the books that God met her in the tunnels under the palace. She was ravaged and hiding, but God found her and gave her a new purpose.

Daughters forget sometimes, I am included in this, that our mothers had lives before us. Things in their lives that they don’t mention to us for one reason or another. It’s up to the woman what she tells her daughters it is our job of daughters to love, obey and care for the woman who gave us life. When God is in their heart the Holy Spirit fills them. Magdalena was filled by the Holy Spirit and was seen by the people of Carthage as a woman filled with a mellifluous spirit of goodness. Can you say that about the women in your life? Or about yourself!
