What’s In My Head Tonight

It is already nearly 11 pm, but I am going to push this out anyway. I finally as of this morning saw an eye doctor for the first time in a few years. Need I say more than a retirement, Covid and insurance; I thought not. It was refreshing and relieving to find this woman’s optometrist clinic somewhat like my previous doctor’s surroundings.

Even though it was inside my local Wal-Mart, it reminded me of the local area. Dr. Hale knew both sides of my family, but was actually related to my Dad’s Aunt’s husband. We also had wonderful conversations with his wife and sister-in-law who worked for him his last few years of working. Today as I walked into my former place of employment, I met my classmate’s mother in order to sign in to see the doctor. I knew most of the faces in the office from having worked at the store. All but one of them were faces I know I’d seen over the years. One of them I personally worked with as a cashier side by side. In fact she came in while I was putting on the new contacts re-emphasizing again she thought I was much younger than I look.

This is one thing I love my friends I have worked with through the years are still my friends. That is not the case from any other job I have had lately. My friendships I have made as a cashier have been more binding and lasting.

Then tonight my grandma’s church had their Mother’s Day Banquet. It is my 2nd one this season, my church’s banquet will be next week. It’s literally been three weeks of banquets to attend this year. No matter how many times I’m in the sanctuary of that church in Pleasantville; I see the history of my family. More than 200 years of three different branches of my family served and sat in those 5 different church buildings. Grandma is literally the last of those branches to attend this church. That seems like such a melancholy thought for the historian in me wanting to always preserve history.

While trying to head home in order to finish writing this evening, an unusual sighting was made. Not even two minutes away from the church out of nowhere a big black pig came across the road at me. It was like a barrel barging quickly from the south side of the road towards the north at an angle. I just laughed and thought wow this must be God’s sense of humor again. For dinner at the banquet we had two entree’s chicken and ham loaf.

Life is crazy sometimes we just need to have a good laugh and enjoy the beautiful day God gave us. It has been a marvelous day at that.
