Traveling Back to Memories

Today looking back at our road-trip another memory surfaced from last year at our current destination of our journey Saturday. So after the third bust of the day we decided to head homeward bound. Not being in this area very often and not being engaged in the GPS we missed something.

Two memories have come to me from the recesses of my mind. The first one being a viewing for a beloved teacher’s mother. My parents ended up going with me, our farmers had been doing something, but it seemed that they got rained out.

It was a very watery mess of a day to make the trip to Greenwood to the church where my teacher, my preacher and their family were saying goodbye to a beloved woman. I remember wanting to be there for two women who had become like my own family. I also remember I was not the only congregant from church to head to that viewing that rainy evening. I still can imagine that beautiful church out in the country; a beautiful setting.

My second memory goes back to not even a full year ago as of yet. There was a week in July, where I was to start my job orientation at Fresenius Monday 25th. This horrible event took place on the 17th of July. I was to be directly north of where that shooting happened only a week later in Carmel. To say I did not have that shooting in the back of my mind would be me flat-out lying. It was very fresh for me, but this was my 4th work trip and I was also excited about starting at this company and tried to focus on those thoughts.

As we drove through the area of Greenwood the shooting didn’t register to me. It literally took this afternoon for that memory to resurface. I remember watching the coverage; a couple and a young man were killed that Sunday night. The hero of this shooting that stopped the shooter was a 22 year old. More would have died if he hadn’t been there and within 15 seconds 8 of his ten shots incapacitated the shooter. Now once I was in Carmel for my 2-day orientation, I felt safe even though my room in the hotel was on the 9th floor.

We did stop at a CVS and it did turn us around a little bit. So our misdirection could be blamed on that one stop. This trip to find dad another Vibe car has been absolutely off course all morning. We are still hours away though from our county line in Sullivan. More memories are about to be unearthed in this irregular Saturday at least it was a beautiful day to get lost on the road.
