Have you ever been camping?

Camping has never been on my bucket list. However, we had some long nights waiting for our farmers to bring them home. There were times they didn’t need to have a truck where they would finish the next day. So we had to either stay and wait on them and pick them up however, many we needed to. There were from one person up to 4 at times.

When my brothers and I were able to drive it came in very handy for our guys time after time. One particular night I remember being at our Switz City field needing to set up for the next day at the Worthington field. It was literally midnight, but we had a train of grain trucks, a car, the combine and the combine head. It seems like ADM would only be open for a short time over a weekend and they continued working. It was an unusual thing, but we needed to get the grain to Sullivan as long as they were open. It seems like it was corn, because the soybeans get a bit testy at night and early morning, they wouldn’t run as late at night due to their idiosyncratic behavior.

I may have been in the car, but It was as close to sleeping outside as I have come to while helping watch over the guys. Once everything got moved safely we left them to work and went to our beds. It was a long 24 hours.

We were a farming family it’s what we did. Anything to help our farmers come home to us safely. There were a few nights where we were needed and if sitting in a car or truck was necessary you better believe we were there in a heartbeat.

There is nothing more incredible than seeing the fruits of labor. The field for an office is pretty amazing. Fresh air galore unless the farmers are putting on lime or anhydrous whatever stage they are in of the year, then it stinks.

Please be observant around farm equipment this Spring. Planting Season is important for the Farmers!
