Life-Giving

How do things happen in life? Is there a rhyme and reason? Or like supposedly smart people said, the Big Bang Theory just happened? Which one do you believe? The cause and effect scenario is very real, but this theory seems lacking in common sense.

In Genesis, God Himself, spoke the world into existence. Light and day with the stars and the moon. There has always been a purpose to what God does. It’s incredible to see; as a believing woman and as a historian; how God gets to His purpose.

Christ spent as much time in prayer as He could. His prayer life was necessary and the Garden of Gethsemane is a glimpse of that need.

My niece is now on the verge of becoming a teenager. Although in truth she’s already there. Being her aunt and an observer in her life, to some extent, my role has been the loving protective aunt and older woman in her life. It’s not always easy being an adult and being in her other family. Divorce brings on another set of issues that takes a finesse when dealing with two families for a little girl. Sometimes she just needs a hug and some cuddling time.

Saturday, driving on our curvy journey I saw a billboard that I hadn’t seen before anywhere else. It was a caricature of a pregnant woman with her baby bump showing. Two arrows were pointing at the mother and at the baby forming the bump. The caption the billboard was expressing was the want to protect the mother and the baby. Both are important and imperative to care for them essentially.

Seeing that message made me think about how God always has a purpose in how things happen. When my brother and sister-in-law at that time, nearly 13 years ago, my family had already spent two years praying over this marriage and its effects. There are so many variances and factors to each marriage and what it produces. I prayed very specifically during that time and God answered that prayer in 2012.

Prayers are answered in God’s timing and in His way. She was born very small 5 pounds and 6 inches and had to stay in the hospital for most of that week. At one point she stopped breathing, it was kind of scary for a couple of days. Several on her mom’s side of the family have asthma. She has not had any troubles of that kind fortunately. She is a very loved little girl and has had prayers wrapped around her since before she was born.

A test was taken several years ago I believe it was about her results showing she was missing a 21st chromosome. The doctors wanted both sides of her family involved and asked a bunch of questions. She was missing a chromosome, but it didn’t really affect her negatively. Amazingly the list of symptoms she should have been showing on their list with this apparent diagnosis was nowhere near as bad as they should have been. She does not have Downs Syndrome, she is smart, but she will remain a small stature for the rest of her life.

This little girl has shown us time after time how much our prayers over her life have been brought to fruition. Not being a mother myself has given me my time and effort directed toward this precious gift of ours. I see my mothering tendencies and the fiercely protective mama stance I have with her, as auntie, as my boyfriend calls me.

Aunts have so much power within their grasp for their family. The power of an aunt and uncle who prays over their loved ones is investing their time and love into those little hearts and minds. Praying equals love. Are you spending enough time praying over those hearts you cherish so much?

Yes if you’re wondering, I am tearing up right now; it’s hard not to when I remember what we have come through as a family! God has used our prayers to give us such a wonderful gift of life.
