In January 2022 I took a risk and sent my application to DaVita. March 6th was my first day on the job. I look back on that decision with 20/20 vision. I needed to know I could challenge myself from the education I received through my online Medical coding classes. Medical Terminology was my favorite class by far of those several classes. I learned a lot of lessons about leadership and that I could do the process of cleaning a patient’s blood. The history and music nerd could actually be a dialysis patient care technician, blew my mind, then later on at a different company different location I passed the competency test. Passing by 93% felt incredible until I had witnessed what women could do to be mean.
My real training began in a different environment though. I actually learned the bulk of how a Clinic works together from the leadership down at the Mount Vernon Clinic. I was able to train there for three weeks, two-day stays in that very special to me Clinic. Maybe the fact one of the nurses was named Miriam was a slice of the change in locations for me. I don’t know, the team seemed more cohesive and they generally cared for each other. However, my Clinic was a mess I will never forget my fellow trainee and I talked about our thoughts that first night in Mount Vernon. It was nice we seemed to be on the same page, we equally felt off at our Clinic. The second big moment for me was traveling for work. I mean we stayed in one big luxurious two bed room it was awesome and the company was paying for it. I have never experienced this type of work before that first trip took a lot of prayers for me, but it also was an amazing experience I will never forget.
