Describe a random encounter with a stranger that stuck out positively to you.

This question is a good one. I can think of a couple answers. I worked in the Admissions Office at College as the switchboard operator. I remember different people came in and out of these offices all the time. I got a phone call from Iraq and he wanted to be sent to the College President Dr. Murray at the time. He asked me how the weather was and it seems like he asked me more, but I can’t remember. He did tell me he was a Chaplain and was calling from Iraq to speak to the College President. It was so surreal to me; I wish I could remember more of the facts.

This was my first semester at OCU and it feels like a lifetime ago. I just remember how amazing it was to speak to someone in the middle of Iraq. I had interviewed Uncle Horace before then and talked to Veterans, but never talked to someone actively serving. It was very brief, but I do seem to remember him asking more questions about school or just about my day perhaps. I spent only one semester on the switchboard, but I always worked in offices as an assistant through my work-study experiences.

My thought was how cool, a Chaplain serving in Iraq, possibly graduated from OCU, who had a personal relationship with the College President. As quickly as I could after work, I had to tell Grandpa about the experience. To me it was a thrilling few minutes as a switchboard operator and I did my job getting him sent to the secretary of the President’s office. A woman I would later get to personally work with. She would also help plan my little birthday party for me and our sitting President at the time.
