Spring Time in Indiana

Today has been a gorgeous day in Southern Indiana. On a drive south on 41 headed to Vincennes, I lost count. We must have passed our way down and back up at least 5 different tractors getting ready to plant.

Like they say, once a farmer’s daughter is always a farmer’s daughter. I cannot pass by a farmer and not think about what could happen. I have been the farmer’s granddaughter, daughter, niece, and sister it’s in our blood after more than 50 plus years. My niece still loves being a farmer’s daughter and would have followed us in those same footprints as I did with my mom and grandma.

In college I once had to give a persuasive speech; I chose speaking on safety around farm equipment. We know several friends around our farm community who have had accidents then add the farm equipment around hotheaded drivers whether on the highway or on the country roads it is dangerous. So this is my plea, please be careful driving around those planters, tractors and all farm equipment this spring. Every one of those drivers has someone to go home to and who wants them to come home.

Once we got out of the farming business, it would jar me, thinking that guy had someone on his tail trying to push him. My thought was saying a prayer for him. It just takes one wrong move. Don’t get so caught up in your hurry that you forget the guy in the tractor also wants to see his wife and kids that night too. And yes, women do also drive farm equipment; I have had some fun driving our tractors too.
